This anniversary program commemorates the 75th anniversary of Gracie Mansion as the official mayoral residence of New York City. The year 1942 signaled an age of new possibilities and progressive momentum that made New York the epicenter of the post-war world. Looking back at it through the lens of art and artifacts sheds light on why the City looks and functions as it does today and helps inform the social and cultural expectations shaping the collective future.
The new pieces have been carefully curated by Kalia M. Brooks, consulting curator to the Gracie Mansion Conservancy, to create a more historically accurate picture of life in New York City during the of the La Guardia residence.
Read the new descriptive text to be provided during upcoming tours, which will provide a richer educational experience for visitors and school groups.
