Medicaid Provider Fraud

New York City HRA is the largest social services agency in the United States. The Investigation, Revenue and Enforcement Administration (IREA) Investigates fraud against social services programs in NYC. We also identify fraud committed against our Medicaid clients and the program. This is called Medicaid provider fraud.

There are numerous types of Medicaid provider fraud. Some common examples are:

  • prescribing medications and services without a medical need,
  • a person or pharmacy asking to buy back medications or prescriptions,
  • any COVID-19 related fraud,
  • clients billed for services (e.g., transportation, home attendant/CDPAP) or procedures they did not receive.

If you think that a Medicaid recipient or medical provider is committing fraud against Medicaid in New York City, please click here to report it.
