IDNYC Celebrates its 7th Anniversary

The IDNYC municipal identification card launched on January 12, 2015, which means for seven years New Yorkers have been able to depend on the one ID card for all of us. IDNYC is a free municipal ID card for all NYC residents age 10 and up, regardless of immigration status.  It is a recognized ID card for accessing City services, and comes with benefits and discounts offered by businesses and cultural institutions across the five boroughs. IDNYC benefits all city residents, including the most vulnerable communities - the homeless, youth, undocumented immigrants, the formerly incarcerated, and others who may have difficulty obtaining a government-issued photo ID.

IDNYC is the largest and most successful municipal ID program in the country, with over 1.4 million cardholders, and has continued to grow and offer new benefits in the past seven years. IDNYC has expanded access by lowering the age requirement to age 10 and above; adding gender "X" designation to more closely reflect how a cardholder identifies; embossing IDNYC in Braille to assist blind or low vision cardholders; expanded the IDNYC online portal to increase cardholder accessibility; and recently partnered with the New York City Department of Corrections (DOC) to increase access to all members of our community. IDNYC has been groundbreaking since its inception and continues to innovate to serve all New Yorkers.
