Amie Garrett is the Special Assistant to Commissioner Abeywardena in the NYC Mayor's Office for International Affairs. In this capacity she helps drive special projects, participates in selected internal and external meetings, conducts research, leads new initiatives and provides direct support to the Commissioner.
Amie brings a wealth of experience working with high level executives. Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office Amie served as the Executive Assistant to the Global Executive Director of Equality Now, a women’s rights NGO focused on creating a more just world for women and girls through advocacy and legal reform. She also served as the Executive Coordinator to the President of Hunter College. Amie has an MA from The New School in International Affairs and a BA from Hunter College in Philosophy and Art. While completing her undergraduate degree, she spent a semester living abroad in Malawi volunteering with the non-profit Access Health Africa, teaching and advocating for HIV/AID’s curriculum to be taught in secondary schools. Originally from Long Island, Amie has been a Brooklyn resident for the past ten years.
