Reel Works With Avan Jogia is a unique new program that presents the unfiltered voices of New York teens. Each week, actor/philanthropist Avan Jogia (“Victorious on Nickelodeon and Founder of Straight But Not Narrow”) presents three stories by an extraordinary group of young filmmakers about the joys and the complex challenges of life as a teen in NYC. Targeted equally at the millions of teens facing adult-size choices, and the adults who care about what it’s really like growing up today.
The series is produced by Reel Works Productions, a youth-run company that, with the help of professional mentors, produces films for broadcast and for a slate of other clients. Reel Works films have aired on PBS, HBO, The Oprah Winfrey Show and at major film festivals across the country, and have garnered numerous awards including a National Student Emmy. Reel Works is the recipient of the President’s Council on the Humanities Coming Up Taller Award.
Vancouver native Avan Jogia landed his first acting role as Danny Araujo on the award-winning TV movie drama A Girl like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story, directed by Oscar nominee Agnieszka Holland. Jogia followed up with a recurring role on the SyFy Channel hit series Caprica, as well as becoming series regular role the CW's Aliens in America. He received notice amongst a wide audience with his lead role as Beck on Nickelodeon's Emmy nominated series Victorious. Avan was seen as Danny Desai on ABC Family's Twisted. Avan will soon be seen this summer playing the title role opposite Oscar Winner Ben Kingsley in Spike TV’s mini-series Tut.
Having a special interest in youth human rights and equality, Avan lends his support to many charitable organizations: as a Peace First Ambassador and founder of the national charitable organization Straight But Not Narrow.
Erinn Veronica Westbrook is a talented actress, model, and on-air personality. A graduate of Harvard University (where she studied English, American Literature and Dramatic Arts), Erinn has hosted MTV Spring Break 2010, 2011 and 2012 (with more than 40 million viewers watching), and appeared as the the face of the mtvU mini-series Movers and Changers.
Erinn has taken Hollywood by storm, appearing on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth, as Jessica and her first feature film In A World (2013) starring Eva Longoria and Directed by Lake Bell. Erinn wrapped 22 episodes of production for the sitcom Mr. Box Office, as the feisty Danielle and has since appeared as the recurring mean-queen Bree on Season 5 of Glee. Erinn can be seen playing Gabby Richards on MTV’s Awkward.
In 2015, Erinn will star in Reel Works’ first feature film, 72 Hours: A Brooklyn Love Story? an original comedy created by Reel Works teens and directed by Raafi Rivero.
