"New York Music Month" Launches CityFM Radio Show About NYC's Rich Music Scene

Series Kicks Off Friday, June 7 on WNYE – 91.5 FM

In June, New York City celebrates the third annual New York Music Month (NYMM). As part of the NYMM, the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) Commissioner Anne del Castillo and NY is Music co-founder Justin Kalifowitz today announced the launch of CityFM - a new original radio show, produced by co-sign and Raspberry Jones. CityFM will air every Friday at 12pm EST on WNYE - 91.5 FM. The show launches June 7 and will conclude August 27.

CityFM will explore NYC's music culture, emerging artists and trends, and upcoming events through the lens of what's happening around the city in Summer 2019, with the aim of creating a magazine-style radio show. Each show will also be available on Mixcould here.

"New York Music Month is an annual celebration of everything the City's music scene has to offer for fans and musicians alike, and we're thrilled to extend the programming on air and online with CityFM," said Media and Entertainment Commissioner Anne del Castillo.

"CityFM is turning out to be our love letter to New York" said co-sign's Jessica Weber. "As someone who has always been part of the local music scene, it's beyond exciting to have a platform to let people know what's out there. So much of being in NYC is about living and experiencing this city. Hopefully this show inspires people to do a little more of that."

"CityFM was created out of an opportunity and desire to tell all the great stories taking place in New York's music community," Raspberry Jones (Piotr Orlov) said. "The show is an ode to the music and culture in this city. Jessica and I have the honor of knowing many of these people and their stories; and we're being given the privilege to share these narratives with the rest of the world."

The inaugural CityFM episode airing June 7 is titled "Summer." Ask any New Yorker about their favorite summer music memory - a block-party, outdoor concert, sweaty nightclub, the jeep-beat blasting out of a passing car, or a summer hit song- and there's a good chance they will have a story to tell. CityFM talks to New Yorkers of all ages about their summer memories, and tells the stories of their playlists, block parties and "beating the heat" by "sweating it off" or by "cooling it down" with the proper soundtrack.

Featuring: DJ Spinna, Stormin' Norman (Sundae Sermon), Tabu (Soul Summit), Taja Cheek (L'Rain + PS1 Warm-Up) and Eamon Harkin (Mister Sunday + Nowadays)

"Festivals" are the theme of the June 14 episode. When festival programming or a musical series takes place in New York, it often redefines a concept, introduces new ones, or revolutionizes the form. Spanning all genres, styles and audiences — and boroughs — CityFM will talk to the producers, participants and attendees of the city's festivals, from the two-day multi-stage experiences of Brooklyn's AFROPUNK, to the citywide showcases of SummerStage, to the specific microcultures served by Punk Island and Brasil Summerfest.

Featuring: Ericka Elliot (SummerStage), Ronen Givony (Wordless Music), Matthew Morgan (AFROPUNK), Petrit Pula (Brasil Summerfest), Sacha Jenkins & Honeychild Coleman (1865)
