Project Open House (POH), administered by the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD), removes architectural barriers in the homes of people with permanent disabilities. This program is designed to increase independence in the activities of daily living, thus helping people with disabilities remain a part of their communities. POH provides an opportunity for many individuals to modify their living environments.
POH is funded with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Program participants must meet Federal Section 8 income guidelines and reside within the five boroughs. Individual eligibility is determined by evaluating income and disability, and is on a first come, first served basis. MOPD conducts outreach into the disability community to seek participants. The City contracts with The NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development to operate POH.
