Upon the call to prayer made by Imam Muhamed Fofana, guests broke their fasts with dates and water and lined up for the evening prayer on the lawn overlooking the East River. The congregational prayer was led by Dr. Babacar Cissé on colorful prayer rugs provided by the Council of Peoples Organization (COPO).
After prayer, guests made their way into the tent to enjoy kora performed by Yacouba Diabate Griot, food by Ali Baba Turkish Cuisine, Ena Halal Meat Packing, and Vintage Food Corp, and the speaking program. The program included remarks by Mayor Bill de Blasio, First Lady Chirlane McCray and Dr. Sarah Sayeed.
