In honor of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray hosted a reception and ceremony to recognize the Asian-Pacific American community's contributions to New York City.
During the ceremony, Hasan Minhaj was recognized for his long-standing commitment to New York City and the Asian-Pacific American community. Hasan Minhaj is a comedian, actor, and writer in New York. He recently was the host for the 2017 White House Correspondence Dinner and is a senior correspondent on 'The Daily Show with Trevor Noah'. His critically acclaimed one man show 'Homecoming King' will debut on Netflix spring 2017 and touches on the racism that he experienced growing up in the U.S.
Musical guest, Melody of Dragon, featured Chinese Banhu master Xia Wen-Jie and Yang Zhi-Ping (Yang Qin).
We would like to acknowledge, and thank our committed sponsors of the Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month Reception, without whom this event would not be possible:
