2021 Juneteenth Celebration

June 18, 2021

In honor of Juneteenth, now recognized as a federal holiday, Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray hosted a gathering in St. Nicholas Park in Harlem to kick-off Juneteenth events across the five boroughs.

The program began with welcome remarks by Senator Chuck Schumer. The Secret Society Dance Company then performed a dance routine, followed by The Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” as performed by the Brooklyn High School of the Arts Choir. Thereafter, Pastor Emmanuel Hunter from The Winners Assembly New York delivered an invocation followed by remarks by First Lady Chirlane McCray and a poem by an Urban Word Black Girl Magic Fellow, Miah Prescod. Mayor Bill de Blasio delivered remarks and presented honoree Naturi Naughton with a proclamation.
