“Some years ago, I had the honor to work for Mayor David Dinkins who talked about the gorgeous mosaic. Which I think is a much better phrase and it suggests that we all can be proud of our heritage, can hang on to a lot of the beautiful parts of what our families brought with them and equally, at the same time, be proud New Yorkers and proud Americans. There is no contradiction is there. So in New York City, we understand that and we celebrate that and we think it makes us great and we love the culture, the passion, the art – all of the things that each community brings to this great city,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio in appreciation of the Latinx and Hispanic community.
Remarks were also delivered by Chancellor Richard A. Carranza, and honoree, Emilio Delgado.
