Through NextGeneration NYCHA, our strategic plan to improve residents’ quality of life, the Authority is working to become a better landlord, and mold remediation is high on our list of priorities.
Mold Busters is a new program to better combat mold by finding the source of the problem. Mold Busters equips NYCHA property management staff with better tools, training and accountability to identify the source of the mold, treat it with appropriate remedies, and prevent its recurrence. The program launched May 1 and will run for one year.
- Better Tools: Staff will use new tools to find the source of the problem, including moisture meters and new mold-fighting paint.
- Enhanced Training: Staff will receive additional hands-on training to become successful Mold Busters.
- More Accountability: A new recording process requires photos and guides the staff through the process. We’ll also inspect apartments after the work is complete to make sure there is no mold.
Residents with mold in their apartment should enter a work order by calling the Customer Contact Center (CCC) at 718-707-7771 or using the MyNYCHA app.
