The Office of Crime Control Strategies analyzes and monitors trends across the city and develops strategies targeted to reducing crime, ensuring that these strategies are applied across all units of the NYPD. Data collection, analysis, and technology track existing trends and conditions and develop efficient and effective strategies to suppress crime.

The Chief of Crime Control Strategies co-chairs CompStat, the tracking system for crime trends implemented in 1994. Credited with New York City's historic drop in crime, CompStat uses data and accountability to increase operational efficiency throughout the department, combating crime and improving the quality of life for everyone in New York City.
