NYPD working press credentials are available only through DCPI (Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information), located at Police Headquarters in Lower Manhattan. Applicants may request an appointment with a DCPI staff member to review completed applications by emailing DCPIpresscards@nypd.org. Appointments are scheduled Tuesday through Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. First-time applicants are encouraged to email the Press Credentials office for assistance before completing an application.
To be eligible to receive the NYPD Press Card, an applicant must be a member of the media who covers, in person, emergency, spot, or breaking news events and/or public events of a non-emergency nature, where police and fire lines or other restrictions, limitations, or barriers established by the City of New York have been set up for security or crowd control purposes. Applicants who cover events sponsored by the City of New York which are open to members of the press are also eligible.
Applicants must submit one or more articles, commentaries, books, photographs, videos, films, or audios published or broadcast within the 24 months immediately preceding the Press Card application to demonstrate that the applicant has covered in person six or more covered events occurring on separate days.
In the event an NYPD-issued press credential is summarily suspended or revoked, the holder has the right to a formal hearing pursuant to 38 R.C.N.Y. § 11-11.
