Commissioner O'Neill Appoints New Chief of Patrol and Chief of Personnel

Chiefs Terence A. Monahan and Diana L. Pizzuti Promoted Today During Ceremony at Headquarters

NYPD Commissioner James P. O'Neill appointed today Terence A. Monahan to Chief of Patrol and Diana L. Pizzuti to Chief of Personnel for the New York Police Department. These promotions to the three-star rank of Bureau Chief took place at ceremony in the auditorium of One Police Plaza.

Terence Monahan, formerly an Assistant Chief serving as the Executive Officer of the Chief of Department Office, succeeds Chief Carlos M. Gomez as Chief of Patrol. Diana L. Pizzuti, formerly an Assistant Chief serving as the Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Queens North, succeeds Chief Raymond Spinella as Chief of Personnel.

"I want to congratulate Chief Monahan and Chief Pizzuti on their promotions," said Commissioner James P. O'Neill. "I’m confident that they’ll continue to help lead the Department and this City towards even lower crime and better police and community relations. I wish them continued success."

Chief Monahan joined the NYPD in January 1982 and began his career on patrol in the 41st Precinct in the Bronx. He served as Executive Officer of the 34th Precinct as well as Commanding Officer of the 34th, 46th and 48th Precincts and Narcotics Borough Manhattan North. Chief Monahan also served as Executive Officer for Patrol Borough Bronx. Chief Monahan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Fordham University.

Chief Pizzuti was appointed to the NYPD in January 1982 and began her career on patrol in the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx. She served as the Executive Officer of the 13th Precinct as well as Commanding Officer of the Police Academy, 17th Precinct, Midtown North Precinct and the Corruption Prevention Division of the Internal Affairs Bureau. Chief Pizzuti holds a Bachelor of Science from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a Master of Arts in education from Seton Hall University, with certificates in Leadership and Management, and Human Resources Training and Development.

Additionally, Juanita Holmes and Rodney Harrison were promoted from Deputy Chief to the rank of Assistant Chief, which carries a two-star designation. Chief Holmes, formerly the Commanding Officer of the Domestic Violence Unit, is now the Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Queens North. Chief Harrison, formerly the Commanding Officer of Detective Borough Brooklyn North, is now Executive Officer of Patrol Services Bureau.
