Tow Pounds

A vehicle may be towed by the Department's Traffic Enforcement District to one of the NYPD tow pounds for violations of the NYC Traffic Rules that include, but are not limited to:

  • Double parking
  • Parking in a bicycle lane or bus lane
  • Parking in a bus stop
  • Parking in no standing, no stopping, or no parking zones

NYPD tow pounds are closed on the following days and vehicles cannot be retrieved:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Manhattan

Due to the pending relocation of the Manhattan Tow Pound: Vehicles that are towed in the borough of Manhattan south of 59th street will be stored at the Brooklyn tow pound. Claimants can redeem their vehicles at the Brooklyn Tow Pound during the posted redemption hours. Vehicles that are towed in the borough of Manhattan north of 59th street will be stored at the Bronx tow pound. Claimants can redeem their vehicles at the Bronx Tow Pound during the posted redemption hours
