Tow Pounds

A vehicle might be towed by the Department's Traffic Enforcement Division and brought to one of the NYPD tow pounds listed below for several reasons, such as:

  • Double-parked car
  • Parked on a fire hydrant
  • Unpaid parking meter
  • Blocking an intersection or tunnel

NYPD tow pounds are closed on the following days and vehicles cannot be retrieved:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

As of Monday, April 13, and until further notice, the redemption hours of the Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens Tow Pounds are being reduced, while the Brooklyn Tow Pound's redemption office is being closed entirely.

The Manhattan Tow Pound will no longer be open 24 hours a day. Instead, the Manhattan Tow Pound will be open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M., and will be closed on Sunday.

The Bronx Tow Pound is open to the public for the redemption of vehicles Monday through Friday from 8 PM to 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 8 AM to 4 PM.  The Bronx Tow Pound is closed on Sunday.

The Queens Tow Pound will be open to the public for the redemption of towed vehicles from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M, Monday through Saturday. The Queens Tow Pounds will continue to be closed on Sundays.

If it is necessary that a vehicle be towed in Queens while the Queens Tow Pound is closed, that vehicle will be taken to the Manhattan Tow Pound, and must be redeemed there.   Motorists in Queens who are unsure where their towed vehicles have been taken should first call the Manhattan Tow Pound at 212-971-0771 or 212-971-0772.

All vehicles towed in Brooklyn for parking violations on or after Monday, April 13, will be taken to the Manhattan Tow Pound, and must be redeemed and released there. Those vehicles towed in Brooklyn before Monday, April 13, will not be moved, but will remain impounded at the Brooklyn Tow Pound. All redemption fees for the vehicles still at the Brooklyn Tow Pound must be paid at the Manhattan Tow Pound. After redemption fees are paid at the Manhattan Tow Pound, motorists may then go to the Brooklyn Tow Pound to have their vehicles released.
