Internships and Volunteer Opportunities

The New York City Department of Probation (DOP) helps build stronger and safer communities by working with and supervising people on probation, fostering positive change in their decision-making and behavior, and expanding opportunities for them to move out of the criminal and juvenile justice systems. We are located in every borough across the City and provide three core services: pre-sentence investigations; intake; and probation supervision.

DOP’s Human Resources Volunteers/Internship Program (HRVIP) is a year-round program designed to provide highly motivated individuals an opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals. Volunteers and interns obtain hands-on experience in fields that are compatible with their abilities, career goals, and college requirements.

College Internship Requirements: Interns should be able to complete at least 8 to 10 hours of work per week, with a commitment of at least 3 months. They should have a GPA of at least 2.8. Must be enrolled in a course.

Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers should be able to complete at least 12 hours per week, with a commitment of at least 3 months.
