Young Adult Success Corps. (YASC)

The Young Adult Success Corps (YASC) provides a great opportunity for young adults to serve their city and gain important life skills. As YASC members, young adults age 18 to 24 who are on probation spend six to ten months working for local community organizations and city agencies around the city, to identify and support New York City’s most Vulnerable residents. As part of the National Community Service Family, clients are AmeriCorps members and are eligible for a living stipend, a monthly MetroCard for transportation and an educational Segal grant to attend higher education, technical trade school or certification programs, upon completion of their service term.

Why join YASC?

Joining YASC is about making things better for fellow New Yorkers. But it’s also about growing personally and professionally. All year long, YASC members develop work readiness skills, get coaching and counseling, and explore potential career and educational paths—all of which can lead to a better future. YASC members are able to give back to their community, identify resources to redress some of New York City’s most vulnerable populations.

Who can join?

To be eligible, candidates must be:

  • 18-24 years old and reside in NYC
  • Must be a U.S Citizen or legal resident
  • Under the supervision of the NYC or Federal Department of Probation
  • Unemployed or not in school
  • Able to serve full-time: 42 hours per week (1700 hours over 10 months)

A High school diploma, GED or HSE is preferred but not required. If you or someone you know meets the requirements, contact us about joining the YASC.

Growing future leaders

YASC is an important part of New York City’s plan for the future. By supporting YASC, we’re building a corps of civic leaders who will serve New York’s most vulnerable populations and take on the city’s toughest challenges long after their year of service. It is also an opportunity for Probation clients to reduce recidivism and explore possible city agency and non-for-profit careers. The Young Adult Success Corps also provides networking opportunities, paid professional development trainings to assist with learning work culture and the necessary soft skills to be competitive in the 21st century workforce.
