Historical Records

Both New York City’s Municipal Library and Municipal Archives hold historical records that document the actions of City government. By and large, the Library contains published records dating to the 19th Century, while the Archives holds non-published records, dating to the colonial era.


Our family history holdings include vital records for births, deaths, and marriages for the five New York City boroughs.
