NATIONAL SMALL BUSINESS WEEK: FIRST ONLINE BUSINESS COURSE SERIES OFFERED BY THE CITY FOR ENTREPRENEURS ACROSS THE FIVE BOROUGHS

New Courses Will Make Business Education Opportunities Increasingly Accessible to Small Business Owners

Courses Aim to Serve More than 5,000 New York City Entrepreneurs in Two Years

New York – NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Commissioner Gregg Bishop today announced that the first online business course series offered by the City will be rolled out to entrepreneurs across the five boroughs during National Small Business Week. The new online course series will make business education opportunities increasingly accessible to small business owners citywide. Through the course series, SBS will help entrepreneurs at all stages and from all industries start and grow successful businesses. The program aims to serve more than 5,000 New York City entrepreneurs over the next two years.

The new online course series are part of SBS’ business education program, which has already served more than 59,000 entrepreneurs through in-person workshops and courses since launching in 2009.

“We know that entrepreneurs work hard to keep their businesses running, and we are responding to the need for support that won’t cut into their valuable time, said Gregg Bishop, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services. “This National Small Business Week, we’re rolling out new, online courses that help entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses anytime, anywhere.”

Small business owners can apply now be connected to an upcoming course series through Coursera, which hosts business courses developed by the world’s best universities. Participants can choose course series related to the following topics:

  • Building Your Own Business,
  • Operating & Financing Your Business,
  • Mastering Marketing & Sales,
  • Managing & Leading People, and
  • Achieving Your Growth Potential.
