Having strong local partners that support small businesses is key to the success of New York City's commercial districts. We partner with the Support Center to help strengthen community-based organizations through the following programs:
We provide a cohort-based peer learning opportunity for community-based organization (CBO) executive directors and board chairs focused on building effective and engaged nonprofit boards. “Board Build” is a cohort-based, peer learning opportunity for community-based economic development organizations that brings together CBO executive directors and their board chairs in a series of facilitated conversations and activities around topics including board composition and recruitment, creating and managing board culture and dynamics, and defining roles and responsibilities.
All participating CBOs will administer a board self-assessment and will be given specific guidance on organizing and agenda setting for a board retreat to occur in spring 2019. The program format will include a combination of three in-person peer learning sessions to be attended by both the CBO executive director and the board chair along with one-on-one office hours with a nonprofit management coach over a six-month period.
This is a competitive opportunity limited to five organizations and will be facilitated by nonprofit management experts from the Support Center.
