New York City's energy efficiency and green building policies are transformational, but they will not reach their potential if New York City's building industry does not have access to financing and incentive. Fortunately, numerous resources are available at the local, state, and national level.
NYC’s Retrofit Accelerator program provides independent, customized technical assistance and advisory services at no cost to building owners to help accelerate the retrofit process for buildings that are larger than 50,000 sq. ft. The program is a one-stop resource provided by the City for owners and operators of privately-owned buildings to help lower their energy and water costs and increase the value of their properties through energy and water upgrades.
New York City also provides tax abatements for green roofs and solar panels. Additional financing is available through the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation (NYCEEC) , The Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s Green Housing Preservation Program.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) administer a number of programs targeting a wide range of building sectors. In addition, the New York State Department of Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) administers New York’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) for low-income families to improve home energy performance.
