Building Energy Efficiency Rating, 2018

NYC Local Law 33 of 2018, as amended by Local Law 95 of 2019, requires owners of buildings exceeding 25,000 square feet to obtain and publicly display the Building Energy Efficiency Rating label. The label includes the 1-100 ENERGY STAR® score and corresponding A-D letter grade to give New Yorkers a snapshot of a building’s energy performance.

Key Dates

May 1: Deadline to submit annual energy and water usage to the City.

October 1: Building Energy Efficiency Rating labels made available by the NYC Department of Buildings  

October 31: Deadline to publicly display the Building Energy Efficiency Rating label
