Joe Bello represents the Bronx on the Veterans Advisory Board. A native New Yorker, he served 11 years in the United States Navy/Naval Reserve. After being honorably discharged, Bello attended LaGuardia Community College (CUNY) and New York University (NYU). An active and visible advocate within the New York City veterans' community, Bello regularly writes in the Gotham Gazette and Task & Purpose.
Bello currently runs NY MetroVets - an informational site for veterans that shares news and events that are taking place for veterans, military personnel and their families in the NYC area. He has also served on a number of boards and non-for-profit organizations throughout the city. Some of Bello's current participation includes: Chair, Borden Avenue Veterans Residence (BAVR) Advisory Committee; Member, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.'s Veterans Advisory Council; Member, NYC Continuum of Care (CoC) Veterans Task Force; Member, CUNY Veterans' Services Committee; Life Member, Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Bello has also been a guest speaker on various radio stations including WNYC, WBAI and WWOR, has been featured in various newspapers, including the New York Times, New York Post and Crain's NY Business and has appeared on NY1's "Inside City Hall."
