The NYC Aftercare Working Group was formed in 2016 in response to a record surge in housing homeless veterans and the recognition that supports would be needed to ensure that these veterans - and those that come after them, have what they need to remain stably housed.

The focus of the Working Group is to: identify what supports are most needed for veterans as they transition from shelter to housing; develop or advocate for the programming to meet these needs; and share best practices to continually improve these resources.

The working group is comprised of the following agencies:

  • NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD)
  • NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA)
    • Homelessness Prevention Administration
    • Public Engagement Unit
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
  • Services for the Underserved (SUS)
  • Jericho Project
  • Help USA
  • Volunteers of America
  • Robin Hood Foundation
