Christmas Holiday Information

Wednesday, December 24 is not an official holiday, and all City government offices, including courts, are open.

Thursday, December 25, is Christmas Day. All government offices are closed on Christmas Day, including courts, and there is no mail delivery.

All NYC public schools are closed Wednesday, December 24, 2014, through Friday, January 2, 2015, for Winter Recess. Students return to school on Monday, January 5, 2015.

Alternate Side Parking regulations are suspended and parking meters do not have to be paid on Christmas Day. Additionally, no stopping, no standing, and no parking regulations are suspended, except where those regulations are in effect at any time or 7 days a week.

There is no Sanitation collection on Christmas Day. If Thursday is your regular garbage or organics day, place your items out after 4 PM Thursday, December 25. If Thursday is your regular recycling day, wait until after 4 PM on January 1 to put out your recycling.

There is no mail delivery.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule. Boats run every 30 minutes between 7 AM and 11 PM. Normal service resumes after 11 PM.

All branches of the New York library systems (Manhattan, Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens) are closed.
