Dr. Rachael Bedard

Dr. Bedard is an internist, geriatrician and palliative care physician. She doctors, teaches, writes and advocates at the intersections between health, the criminal justice system, and human rights. Her clinical work is primarily with justice-involved elders, especially people who are recurrently incarcerated in the final decades of their lives.  She is also a research fellow at the Institute to End Mass Incarceration, which is housed at Harvard Law School.  Dr. Bedard was formerly the Senior Director of the Geriatrics and Complex Care Service at Correctional Health Services—the entity that provides healthcare in the city’s jails—and she treated patients at Rikers during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic. Dr. Bedard studied History at Brown University and completed medical training at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and the Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
