Design Professional Checklists:
Construction Fence

Regardless of how the project work is portioned out, administration of the work remains the responsibility of the Registered Design Professional or Registered Contractor, who is the Applicant of Record in ‘responsible charge’ or has verified Code compliance of the drawings and installations for the project. Although some specific projects that do not involve architectural or structural work, which may be completed by other types of NYS Registered Professionals, it is important that the design professional who is Applicant of Record maintain control of the entire project.

This section contains a list of tasks that provide compliance with the Codes and other regulations discussed in the Project Guidelines.

Checklists include:

Prior to Application Approval Checklist

  • Provide ‘reference only’ documents of legal existing conditions. These will speed up the plan review process for repairs by reducing comments and the frequency of repeat reviews.
  • Required Documents: Based on scope of work, supporting documents or deferred submittals must be completed in order to obtain a permit. The following documents must be submitted:

  • Plot/Lot diagram of streets and fence location(s)

  • Minimum design loads

  • Design drawings prepared by a NYS professional engineer or registered architect

  • DOT permit, if the fence exceeds a distance of 3 feet onto the sidewalk.

Pre-Permit & On-going Project Work Checklist

Pre-Permit

Required Documents: Based on scope of work, supporting documents or deferred submittals must be completed in order to obtain a DOB permit.  DOT approval may be required.

On-going

Post Approval Amendments: If the approved work has substantive or significant changes, submit revised drawings and obtain a Post Approval Amendment (PAA).

Project Completion Close-out Checklist

Final Inspection: A final inspection to verify that the fence can be safely removed and/or was completely removed.
