COMMISSIONER LOUIS A. MOLINA TO PRESIDE OVER GRADUATING CEREMONY FOR 116 CORRECTION OFFICERS AND SWEARING-IN CEREMONY FOR NEW MEMBERS OF HIS EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM

CEREMONY WILL ALSO MARK PROMOTIONS OF UNIFORM AND CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES AND GRADUATION FOR MEMBERS OF THE LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AND DEVELOPMENT (LEAD) PROGRAM

Department of Correction Commissioner Louis A. Molina will preside over a graduation ceremony for 116 new Correction Officers and a swearing-in and promotion ceremony for members of his executive leadership team on Friday, October 13th at 9 a.m. at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, 250 Bedford Park Blvd West in the Bronx.

“This ceremony is a tremendous moment for our department. We are welcoming a bold group of highly trained new recruits and continuing to infuse our executive team with talented, veteran professionals to lead them,” said Commissioner Molina. “Together, these dedicated individuals taking on new roles as Correction Officers and senior leaders will further strengthen our department as we continue to improve the safety of our facilities and services available to persons in our custody.”

During their 12 weeks of training, the graduating class of Correction Officers utilized the NYPD’s state-of-the-art training facility in College Point, Queens, and received classroom training in a variety of topics at the Correction Academy in Maspeth, Queens. The new recruits will now receive an additional 8 weeks of field training inside NYC jails – in conjunction with veteran Field Training officers – where they will obtain critical hands-on experience.

Commissioner Molina will also swear in new members of his executive leadership team including Senior Deputy Commissioner Charles Daniels, a 34-year veteran of correction departments, who was appointed last month to lead the department’s facilities and field commands. In addition, two Deputy Commissioners, two Associate Commissioners, and six Assistant Commissioners will be sworn into their new roles.

The ceremony also marks the promotions of two Deputy Wardens, ten Assistant Deputy Wardens, and eight Executive Directors of Facility Operations – who will oversee the day-to-day operations of programs in DOC centers and housing areas, as well as volunteer services within facilities.

The department will also recognize fifteen graduates of the Leadership Excellence and Development (LEAD) program. LEAD is a three-month non-uniform mid-level manager program that exposes participants to exceptional management performance techniques and offers a fuller understanding of formal and informal practices that can drive their unit’s performance.
