Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie Presides Over the Graduation of 72 New Correction Officers and Swearing-In Ceremony for Seven Non-Uniform Members of Her Executive Leadership Team

Ceremony Will Also Celebrate the Promotion Of 2 Deputy Wardens

One Captain and Three Correction Officers to be Honored, Including Longest Serving Officer – Now in His 50th Year of Service

Department of Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie will preside over a graduation ceremony for 72 new Correction Officers on Friday, January 12th at 10 a.m. at the NYPD Academy, 130-30 28 Avenue, Queens. The event will also highlight the swearing-in and promotion of members of her executive leadership team. In addition, four uniformed members will be honored including Officer Walter Nelson, who is now in his 50th year of service to the department.

“I am so proud to lead such an outstanding group of dedicated New Yorkers who understand the impact of the criminal justice system and have made the choice to be leaders in criminal justice reform,” said Commissioner Maginley-Liddie. “Heroes work at the Department of Correction, and today these new recruits join a group of heroes standing on the front lines of public safety by working day and night to maintain and improve the safety of our jails.”

The department continues to utilize the NYPD’s state-of-the-art training facility in College Point, Queens as part of a 12-week training program. The recruits also received classroom training at the Correction Academy in Middle Village, Queens. The new recruits will now receive an additional eight weeks of field training inside NYC jails – in conjunction with veteran Field Training officers – where they will obtain critical hands-on experience.

Commissioner Maginley-Liddie will also swear in new members of her executive leadership team including Deputy Commissioner of Human Resources Lynn Grubiak, Associate Commissioner Nell McCarty, and five Assistant Commissioners. The ceremony also marks the promotions of two Deputy Wardens.
