Ronald Edwards to Serve as Deputy Commissioner of

Administration

Law Enforcement official brings over 20 years of correction expertise to DOC

East Elmhurst, NY – DOC has appointed a new Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Ronald Edwards. Mr. Edwards will serve as the Department’s staffing manager and oversee the assignment and management of uniformed personnel. He is responsible for managing a Roster Management Unit, which will monitor staff assignments, status, and scheduling in all facilities. He will also develop and implement policies and procedures to evaluate staff outages and staff placed on modified duty and create a staff assignment system that will ensure that all staff are appropriately deployed throughout each facility.

Mr. Edwards has over 20 years of law enforcement and supervisory experience. He began his career at the Hudson County Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation in New Jersey where he served as a Correction Officer and K-9 Handler. After 8 years in that role, he was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant after six years. In 2016, he was promoted to Deputy Director of Corrections and in 2017 he was promoted to Director of Corrections. As the Director of Corrections, Mr. Edwards oversaw the daily operations of the 2100-bed correctional and rehabilitation facility while managing 500 law enforcement officers, 150 support staff and 100 contracted employees.

Mr. Edwards holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and a Master of Science in Administration Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

“Director Ron Edwards guided our correctional facility during COVID, the most trying times of our collective government life and did an exemplary job,” said Craig Guy, Chief of Staff to the Hudson County Executive. “Ron also further established our Prisoner Reentry Program where it is a model not only for the State of New Jersey, but nationwide as well. I know he will do a great job at DOC.”

New York City is lucky to have him join the Department of Correction and I wish him all the best as he begins this next chapter of his career.”
