The NYC Public School Calendar lists the dates when schools are fully or partially closed because of planned holidays, parent-teacher conferences, early dismissals, and other events.
The 2018-2019 school year will begin for all students on September 5.
Severe Weather or Emergencies
Public schools may close, open late, dismiss students early, or cancel field trips and after school activities for severe weather or emergencies.
If there are going to be closures or changes to the schedule, the Department of Education will make an announcement as early as possible before 5 AM on the affected day.

Yellow school bus service may also be delayed or suspended because of severe weather or road conditions. If schools are open, yellow school buses should be operating.
If schools remain open during severe weather or Citywide emergencies, parents should use their discretion when deciding whether to allow their children to attend school.
Charter and Private Schools
Charter and private schools do not have to follow the public school calendar or DOE's school closure policy for severe weather or emergencies. You should contact your child's school directly for information.
