FDNY Holds 16th Annual Blessing of the Marine Fleet at South Street Seaport

October 26, 2017

FDNY hosted the 16th Annual Blessing of its Marine Fleet on Friday, October 27, at 11 a.m. at South Street Seaport – Pier 16, Manhattan.  This maritime tradition is meant to ensure safe travels and includes a procession of fireboats along the East River led by Fireboat Three Forty Three of Marine Company 1, – FDNY’s largest fireboat, followed by a colored water display.

“FDNY Marine Operations is equipped with a fleet of fireboats to respond to rapid water rescues and the management of large-scale events or disasters,” said Commissioner Nigro. “The Marine unit is critical in keeping New Yorkers and its visitors safe all year round.”

The FDNY Marine operation encompasses over 20 vessels.

The weekend will feature a wide range of activities for the public, including rescue demonstrations and tours of FDNY engines, ladders, and ambulances.
