FDNY Hosts Bureau of Fire Prevention Employee Recognition Ceremony

On Friday, October 12, 2018, Fire Prevention Employees received recognition for their commitment to service to the City and the Department.

Clerical Associate Liv Kia Reid was recognized at the ceremony. “I love this Department, it’s a job that feels like home,” said Reid. “This job gives me the knowledge and experience I need to grow in my career, it means a lot of be recognized for something that is so fulfilling to me, I help people and that means a lot to me.”

Fire Protection Inspectors ensure life and fire safety of 8.6 million New Yorkers, visitors, and FDNY members by inspecting buildings and ensuring compliance of New York City regulations. More than 300,000 buildings are inspected every year.

Fire Protection Inspector Jose Martinez was also honored at the employee recognition ceremony. “It’s an honor to be out in the field and know that my inspections are not only saving the lives of New Yorkers, but also first responders,” said Inspector Martinez. “I want to thank the Department for giving me the knowledge I have to make a difference.”

When asked about his career with the Department, Supervising Inspector Anirood Budhoo stated, “This is something that I have always wanted to do, I am very proud of my job and I love that I can go out in the field and help the community, I keep people safe and I am very honored to say that.”

“I came on in 2000, and it was the best career move, and best life move I’ve made,” said Deputy Chief Inspector Barbara D. Abramson. “Many people are qualified to begin this career, You need to be detail-oriented, organized, and have excellent customer service skills. You are dealing with the public every day, I love this Department and I love the people that I work with, we are family that goes beyond blood.”
