Supervised Independent Living Programs (SILP)

Short-Term Transitional Programs for Youth Who are Preparing to Leave Foster Care

Supervised Independent Living Programs (SILP) are short-term (12-18 months) transitional programs for youth who are preparing to leave foster care with the permanency planning goal (PPG) of Another Planned Permanent Living Arrangement (APPLA). SILP are foster care placement settings located only in Brooklyn and the Bronx. To learn more about SILP we encourage that you meet with your Fair Futures Coach, Case Planner, or agency Supervisor/Director. Additionally, feel free to contact the Office of Older Youth Development Services at OlderYouthSupport@acs.nyc.gov

To qualify for SILP, see the below criteria:

  • Be 18-20 years old
  • Have earned a High School Diploma/TASC
  • Be matriculated in a college or vocational program (and/or)
  • Provide proof of employment
  • Have a valid State ID
  • Demonstrate both the ability to reside independently and to use money management skills
  • Show proof of having applied for housing
