DDC Project at Harper Street DOT Yard in Queens Receives 2018 Design Award From AIANY

New York, NY – The American Institute of Architects New York chapter (AIANY) has selected the new environmentally friendly transformer building at Harper Street Yard as a Merit winner of its 2018 Design Awards. The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) managed the project for the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT).

The structure houses a new electrical distribution system for the facility connected to the local Con Edison power grid, phasing out generators that had previously been used to supply power to the yard’s asphalt plant.

The building also includes a green roof which insulates and cools the transformers during the changing seasons.

The transformer building at DOT’s Harper Street Yard was designed in partnership with DDC’s consultant nArchitects.
