Community Service at OATH

For some summonses, you can do community service with the OATH Help Center instead of paying a fine. There are several options for completing the community service and there is no physical work or traveling involved. Please contact the Help Center by phone at (212) 436-0845 or e-mail at Csmanhattan@oath.nyc.gov if you need help to understand your choices.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I CAN DO COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR MY VIOLATION?:

*You will be allowed to do community service, instead of paying a fine, only if your summons is on this list and if:

  1. You admit to the charge that is listed on the summons on or before the hearing date that is printed on your summons; or
  2. After your OATH hearing, you receive a decision where the Hearing Officer says that you have the option to perform community service.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPTIONS:

If any one of the above items is true and you would like to do community service, then you can choose one of the following options to satisfy your summons' community service requirement:

  1. If this list shows that you can do either one or two hours of community service, then you can either:
    1. complete an online educational course; or
    2. complete the community service over the phone.
  2. If this list shows that you can do three hours of community service, then you can complete the community service by webcam; or
  3. You can complete the community service in person, in our Help Center office.

NEXT STEPS:

If you are ready to start your community service, please follow these next steps:

  1. If you would like to do your one or two hour community service through the online educational course, please click on this link https://www.citycomserv.com/ and follow the instructions. You will need a stable internet connection to reduce the chances of technical issues. If you need help while taking the course, please call (212) 436-0845 or email Csmanhattan@oath.nyc.gov.
  2. If you would like to do your one or two hour community service by telephone, or your three hour community service by webcam, please call (212) 436-0845 or email Csmanhattan@oath.nyc.gov.

In order to complete your community service session, or to schedule an appointment to do so, you will need to provide your name, mailing address and summons number. You will need to provide a valid email address to do the community service online. Finally, you will need to have a copy of your summons or decision, which contains required information. If you are missing a copy of your summons or decision, please contact the OATH Help Center.

Online community service can be completed in several languages, but please note that certain languages may not be available for the online course. If the language you want is not available, please contact the OATH Help Center.
