Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws“The first of four bills before me today is Introductory Number 935, sponsored by Council Members Arroyo, Cabrera, Chin, Dilan, Dromm, Fidler, Gennaro, Gentile, Gonzalez, Ignizio, Koppell, Mark-Viverito, Mendez, Oddo, Recchia, Rivera, Rodriguez, Rose, Ulrich, Vacca, Vallone, Van Bramer and Koslowitz. This bill renames forty-one thoroughfares and public places throughout the City.
“The first street name I will read, Felix and Ivan Vale Way, in Brooklyn, is a named in honor of two people who died on September 11, 2001. The second street name, Doris S. Torres Way in the Bronx, honors Ms. Torres, who died as a result of her injuries sustained on September 11, 2001. Although this is a modest gesture, this local law demonstrates the City’s commitment to always remember those who perished from the events of that day.
“The next five names I will read are streets named in honor of police officers and members of the military who died in the line of duty in the service of our City or our Country.
