About

Fire Department City
A Certificate of Fitness is required by all Fire Guards in shelters where a sprinkler system is not installed or when a fire protection system is temporarily out of service. A shelter is a building designed to provide a temporary residence for at risk populations such as homeless or elderly persons. Fire Guards are responsible for eliminating fire hazards and assisting in the evacuation of occupants during drills and in cases of emergency. A Fire Safety Coordinator is required to supervise Fire Guards.

This Certificate of Fitness is valid only for the specific person to whom it is issued and can be used anywhere within New York City.
