On January 1st 2019, New York State’s congestion surcharge will take effect. As a result, trips in taxis and For-Hire Vehicles will be charged a surcharge for trips that start, end or pass through Congestion Zone. The Congestion Zone is Manhattan, south of 96th Street, as shown in the image below:
The congestion surcharge is:
$2.50 for non-shared trips in taxicabs
$2.75 for non-shared trips in For-Hire-Vehicles, including limousines, and Street-Hail Liveries (Green Taxis)
$0.75 for shared-rides in any type of vehicle
No surcharge for Access-A-Ride, or any other MTA dispatched trip.
The congestion surcharge cannot be taken out of the driver’s pay, and must be passed on to the passenger(s).
Medallion Owners and FHV Bases must file the collected congestion surcharge each month to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
